What we did today

 Today was a double block day. So for the first block we worked on our group skits. Mainly we focused on finishing the scripts and figuring out how to get props for the skit performance. My group mostly finished the script so we were figuring out who was bringing what for the skit performance. We also talked about the strike and how it affected us right now. So for the whole first block of Humanities we worked on our scripts. At the second block of Humanities we prepared our portfolios. We did 5 worksheets about reflections, what we learned and self evaluation. Overall it was very busy taking our previous work out, sorting them then comparing our recent works with our past work. It took a long time to get organized and some people had trouble and had lots of questions. I’m pretty sure everyone did at least one sheet of the reflections. Also when we were almost finished class there was an announcement about the strike. We had Monday off and maybe Tuesday and Wednesday off too! I didn’t like this news because I have things that were due Monday and now even though we get more free time we also miss out on some things. Overall there wasn’t a lot of homework for people.

 Why We Did It By

Doing a performance with peers and making a script for it takes patience and group collaboration. Everyone has an equal amount of work and everyone has part. The reason for doing group projects like this is because we need to know how to talk with peers and answer questions together. We need to practice working with people and need to be able to work with new people. When we review our work and self asses ourselves you need to be able to self edit work and understand what you need to work on. We all have different strengths and weaknesses we need to keep on improving. To improve we need to know what we did well and what we need help on. By doing oral checks we can figure out where we need help. Also organizing an portfolio is not an easy job to do it well you need certain skills like organization skills and also time management skills. You need good work habits for your skills to develop. On one worksheet of self assessing there was a question that asked you what connection you could make with your work habits and your skill development. The reason we do portfolios is so that you can compare what you did in the beginning and how much you can do now. If you want to improve you need good work habits and to do well in any class you have to keep on improving. Good work habits are being organized and using your time wisely. So the reason for doing reflections now is to compare your work. You are seeing how much you grew.

 Connections/Reflections

 Today I almost finished all of the self assessing sheets. I finished 5 and also when we did skit preparations we were pretty much done the script. For me today was a busy day but I managed to get a lot of work done. The reason we are doing all these self assessment are because we need to grow and learn what we need to improve. When we are adults we also need to work with others so working in a group is a good practice for your oral skills. Understanding the methods we learn in class we can apply it in our daily life for example: working in groups and having conversation. Solving problems and helping on another. We all need these skills as we grow older.
